About Ed

You could say I’ve got a travel bug -- always have. Growing up in Philadelphia, my family was always taking road trips for one vacation or another. It was really a slideshow that my cousin Dennis, the diamond hunter (no shit!), gave when I was eight that locked it in. Images of misty jungles, roiling whitewater, and toothless smiles the world over gave me an itch for travel I’ve been trying to reach ever since.

In college I took time off to go to the west coast and Central America, and it was there that I promised myself a BIG trip – to take on all of South America. After school, I moved to Washington, D.C., and then out to New Mexico following my aspirations to protect a few wild places. After 3 ½ years at the helm of the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance (link) I decided to take my chances and take a year and a half off to follow my dreams south.

So here I am, on the road, heading South. I’ve taken the last year to plan, save money, learn about the bike, and generally get my shit together. I’ve you’ve never seen a year’s worth of gear spread out on the dining room table (and an entire motorcycle spread out on the garage floor) you’re missing out.

Sometimes I wonder if a trip of this magnitude will get at that itch for travel I’ve been trying to scratch ever since I was a kid. Then I think, “Hey, I wonder what’s over there…”

Keep the rubber side down,
